Our Story.

The story of Nexion starts with a problem the membrane industry has been ignoring for years.

Conventional membrane materials have always had limits. Regenerated cellulose falls apart under aggressive cleaning. Polyethersulfone can't handle organic solvents. PTFE and fluoropolymer membranes are heading toward obsolescence as PFAS regulations tighten worldwide. For decades, scientists and engineers have been working around these failures, selecting materials based on what won't completely fall apart rather than what actually does the job.

That's not good enough anymore.

Water Contact Angle on PEEK membrane surface

Developed in the research labs of Dr. David Latulippe and Dr. Charles de Lannoy at McMaster University, Nexion’s PEEK membrane platform was created out of a desire to eliminate compromise. PEEK doesn't degrade under harsh cleaning. It doesn't swell in organic solvents. It doesn't leach. It doesn't fail when you need it most. It is biologically inert, thermally stable, chemically resilient, and mechanically tough. No modifications needed. No workarounds. It just performs where everything else gives up.

For pharma and biopharma, this matters more than most industries want to admit. ADCs, peptides,  oligonucleotides, and radioconjugates are the next generation of therapeutics and they are brutal on conventional membranes. Yield loss, premature membrane failure, and cleaning validation headaches are not acceptable when the product running through your filtration system is worth thousands of dollars per gram.

Nexion was founded because enough was enough. The membrane industry has had decades to solve these problems and chose comfort over progress. We chose differently. Not to iterate on what exists. To replace it.
